What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy(OMT) is used to treat orofacial myofunctional disorders(OMDs).  Progressive exercises work to rehabilitate the oral and facial muscles related to proper tongue placement, breathing, speaking, chewing, swallowing and facial growth and development.

The four main goals of OMT are to establish:

  • nasal breathing

  • proper tongue posture

  • correct swallowing pattern

  • lip seal(mouth closed)

When oral and facial muscles rest and function in the proper way, other benefits to oral health, speech, swallowing, breathing and alleviation of other symptoms can happen!

After an initial assessment is complete, a personalized treatment plan will be designed to meet your individual needs for you to achieve optimal results.
